Distribution Amplifier. Designed to feed the same signal to many different outputs.
DAB
Acronym: Digital Audio Broadcasting.
DAT
Acronym: Digital Audio Tape.
dB
A ratio of two voltages or signal levels, expressed by the equation
dB=20LOG(V1/V2)
Adding the suffix “u” denotes that the signal is relative to 0.775V RMS.
Adding the suffix “v” denotes that the signal is relative to 1V RMS.
DEL
Direct exchange line. A telephone line. (Usually put through a telephone system).
DFA
Acronym: Does F**k All. A very useful box when a client complains about nothing. You can then say that you have adjusted the DFA box, and they go away happy!and they go away happy!
DI Box
Direct Injection Box. Interface box between a high-level source and usually microphone level. There are 2 main types active, powered from battery, phantom power or an external supply or passive types that need no power and usually have a transformer in them.
Dipole
Radio antennae, consisting of only one element.
Dirty
The opposite of clean. The complete mix with for example effects plus commentary.
Diversity
2 complete radio receivers, fed from 2 antennas. The signal then is combined to one output. This configuration will help to reduce dropout of the RF signal.
Double Clicks
Instead of replying on the radio and saying yes! You press the TX button twice.
Drake Box
Talkback box, that uses 4 wires to communicate with the sources.
